My Side of the Mountain~

We are still reading My Side of the Mountain and because we've had lots of birds around,
I made copies of a falcon so we could watercolor~
We copied a beautiful scripture on them too.
There are two books after this one and I hope we like them as well!
Read aloud is a favorite around here!!!

Poetry Teatime Poolside~

We all chose a poetry book plus a nature book and came to the pool for school~
We painted, read, talked, and enjoyed being together~
After a full morning of working, we changed into swimsuits and took a swim.
That's the kind of school we like!!!

Birds Everywhere~

We have nests of eggs and baby birds all over our yard so we pulled out our bird books~
And painted bird nests with a fork~
 Beautiful Art Stories~

Frog Day~

This TMI but this a.m. I stood up to flush and saw a little frog sitting on the back of the toilet.
I thought 'that's funny EK tried to scare me with this little fake frog' so I took a closer look...
AND IT JUMPED!!! I almost had fainted!

I yelled for EK, and she came running.
"Oh mom! That's just a little gray tree frog."
Okay but I don't want it hopping around in the house!!!

She asked for a jar and went out to create a beautiful home for her new little pet~
The beauty of a child's soul spills forth when they hold something they love near.

As soon as the terrarium was all set up, EK came in to gather all her nature books
and began to read us everything she could find about gray tree frogs~
{EK named him Banquet, and he is our pet for the next week}
I searched through the pantry and brought out some ingredients to make edible frogs on a log~
We made frog life cycle spinners for our notebooks~
We also read lots of frog stories and poems~
 We laminated our science project~
And set up a little science table with our little nature pets~
It was a super fun day learning exactly what the kids were interested in!!! Frogs!

Nature Everywhere~

Over the last few days we've had nature surrounding us~
Evie and Holly found a caterpillar, and it's already spun a cocoon~

We have a nest full of bird eggs in our garage door opener.
Our pet black snake is slithering through the backyard.
And read on for the story about this adorable little gray tree frog. :0

A New Beautiful Feet Study: Horses

As EK celebrated her 'Horse' birthday, she asked if we could do the BF Horse study.
We received it today and just look at the beauty...
Tons of wonderful horse stories and just what we wanted for this season~
We dove right in with lesson one where we read about the Arab and labeled the horse for our art notebooks.
Our friend Ms. Jennifer messaged me about a Breyer Horse barn she wanted to give the kids~
so she surprised them, and they've been playing with it ever since.
What a special gift for our family as we learn all we can about horses.
Thank you Ms. Jennifer! We LOVE you!!!

A Shakespeare Nature Walk~

To begin our day today, I placed pattern blocks on the coffee table for brain training while I read history to them.
I recently purchased a book of How to Teach Your children Shakespeare.
This was the first day I opened it up and within the first chapter, memorized our first line.
"I know a bank where the wild thyme blows."
We discussed each word, defining them, and SJ said, "Mom! We have a bank at the lake!"
Everyone grabbed their coat, we ran to the lake to get a photo on our bank, and practice our one line of Shakespeare~
EK took a wade to the dock. We looked for interesting things through the woods.
We pulled weeds in our tomato patch~
We found beautiful flowers around our yard and picked them~
Trees in our yard make wonderful places to play~
After a great walk, we pulled our favorite flower books~
 Identified~
 and drew~
Nature Walk Wednesday mixed with Shakespeare was a perfect match~
If you ask this crew!!!

D.E.A.R Day {Drop Everything and Read Day}

Today was Beverly Cleary's 100th birthday and Sarah @ Read Aloud Revival challenged everyone to DEAR Day, so we took it.
We started our morning gathered on the Story quilt surrounded by books and our Macy girl~
I had also set up reading Activities all around the house so after we read, I shouted ACTIVITY and they ran to find one~
Lots of things were out they would never choose but because it was a game, they loved it!
I also sat up independent reading areas from audible/books, tag readers, and listening books~
We even made up a game with ABC dice and scrabble cheese-its:
roll the dice, name the letter, make the sound, and name something that begins with it (older girls had to name a book title that began with the letter!)~
I would call out Story time, and they would run back to the quilt so I could read to them
and because they loved all the activities I had out,
I put them in our red chest for DEAR time anytime!~
This was late in the afternoon when they chose story cubes to play because we had played earlier~
This just might turn out to be a THING we do more often! Huge smiles!!!

These are a few of the books EK and SJ learned to draw from~
So I pulled them out for everyone today~
Love they all like to draw!!!

Art Stories~

EK got the book pictured for gotcha day, and it has been a favorite for our nature art stories~
She also received a few new drawing books for her birthday~
Holly looks at her art story binder almost every day! It is definitely a special book!

Poetry Teatime~

Our day began with Awana scripture art, and we were inspired by our beautiful friend Kim Bolton on IG~
She is lettering a verse for 30 days and we tried our hand at it.
They turned out beautiful!

Then we were on to Poetry Teatime with ritz, nutella, and marshmallow puffs and
sprinkle chocolate milk treats~
We gathered in the sunroom on the floor to read a stack of poetry library books~
ALL the kids LOVE these Silly Song Books but SJ ADORES them~
{Affiliate Link}
She sits for an hour at a time to learn the tune, add the words, and sing the song.
Today we were honored she chose to share a few with us.
Such a fun way to enjoy poetry and make us all happy!!!

Math for Bitty Girls~

I am not ready to put the bitty girls in Primer Math U See but I do want to encourage love for math.
They love playing with our math blocks so today after they had finished some journal work,
I traced the blocks~
They had to match, color, and stack in order from longest to shortest.
It was very easy for Evie.
She spent time helping Holly~
It turned into a block crashing session but learning did happen in a very fun way.
No extra materials needed and done in a playful way.

A Little This and That~

Tuesday we celebrated Poetry Teatime with rice krispie treat birdnests and green tea~
Everyone got robin eggs in their Easter baskets so we were made edible nests~
Another surprise in their baskets were these little art board books.
They are learning about each artist as well as the work they created!!!
Each book is written in rhyme, so they were perfect for our poetry time.

We have really found a great rhythm for our bible time each morning.
The four youngest got 'real' bibles in their Easter baskets,
because they want to highlight Awana scripture like the girls and I~
Our new devotional is Leading Little Ones to God,
and we are highlighting that verse each day too~

I see lots of great things coming from this practice each morning:
* learning how to have a quiet time
* learning how to find the scripture
* rereading scripture they have memorized
* a love for God's Word
* growing in a relationship with Christ~

After the goose outing, EK took her art story time to sketch, paint, and write about seeing them~

The other five decided to try their hand at copying the masters~

This week our FIAR selection was Mrs. Katz and Tush.
She was befriended by a neighbor boy who loved her wonderful stories.
She was a widow and lived all alone until the day she was givien a cat, Tush.
It gave us so many topics for discussion and an act of kindness for our Fun Friday activity.

We decided to make cupcakes~
 and paint postcards~
then deliver to lots of people we love~
6 out of our 10 stops were widows.
It was a beautiful treat for our family and sure hoping it was for the ones we visited too!!!

Another great week at Ankerich Academy!!!
