Easter Week~

Our first book was Rechenka's Eggs and after reading, we met the author, Patricia Palacco~

The book described a lady creating beautiful Ukrainian decorated eggs, so I blew out six eggs saving them for breakfast~

I punched holes in both ends with an ice pick. Harder than it seemed~

On Wednesday, we used our Resurrection Eggs to tell the story of Jesus~

Our history lesson was Christopher Columbus so we printed a page from our book, painted, and wrote what we learned about him~

Thursday, our eggs were clean and dry so we painted with watercolors and colored with sharpies~
 It was very delicate work~
 They turned out Beautiful~

Friday we all picked our favorite nature book, drew, and painted for our art stories~
 Everyone worked so hard~
More amazing stories for their notebooks~

Finally Friday we needed to get our eggs ready for the egg hunt so we stuffed and stuffed~

Our book for the day was this beautiful story~
We all painted sunrises and created stained glass crosses for our notebooks~
They wrote He Is Alive!
It was an awesome week as we prepared for Easter.

All About Rocks and Volcanoes~

We had a great school week!
The kids have really been interested rocks lately, so I went with it.
We collected the rock books we owned and ordered a few more from Amazon.
Our first day we read about the layers of the Earth~
 And painted our own model~

Tuesday we enjoyed a Poetry Teatime~
Then we watched youtube videos about volcanoes and learned to draw them~
 Beautiful work~

Our bible time was centered around the events of Easter.
We loved the scripture, "Even the stones will cry out" Luke 19:40~
We usually read from our story bible in the mornings.
An article Hayden sent me encouraged us to find it in our real bibles and read that at night.
It has been SO meaningful, and the kids LOVE reading along in their bibles too!

Thursday we read the best book called If You Find a Rock and sorted our rocks into groups~
I brought out my special memory rock for CallaAnne!
EK and SJ both have this awesome rock collections, and they enjoyed naming the rocks.
For our art story, we copied our new memory verses and illustrated~

Fun Friday was awesome!
I read A Rock is Lively and while the big girls played Rock on with the littles~
I pulled together a science experiment for daddy to do with them~
Everyone helped mix the ingredients for a volcano~
We learned that rocks are mixed with minerals like cookies are mixed with ingredients so...
We made sugar cookies~
Everyone divided their paper into fourths and drew the steps of our science experiment~
Daddy approved of our science reports, and I think they are hooked on How Science Works now!

Thinking the rock thing might just continue next week too!!!

The Little Red Lighthouse, Albert, and Birds

For the last couple of weeks we have read books with cars and airplanes, so this week
I pulled out The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Gray Bridge.
Once again it was a book I would never have chosen by looking at it,
but we loved it so much!
We found tutorials of how to draw lighthouses and took a tour of the real little red lighthouse~
We also finished listening to our Audible version of Pippi Longstocking, and it was a favorite!
I had the kids draw their favorite part~
They narrated their story and added it to their artwork~
Scripture memorization is such a hit here now with the excitement of Awana.
The big girls love finding their verses, highlighting them, and dating when they are memorized.
They also got 'real' watercolors like Mimi and love painting in their adult coloring books~

Fun Friday was a sort of hodge podge.
I found this precious book called Albert and read it them while they painted birds~
We added Matthew 6: 26 "Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?"~
It was such a glorious day, they stretched out in the sun~
SJ has become quite the painter~
We finally bought birdseed and made more bird feeders with pinecones~
 The birds were super happy~
A GREAT week @ Ankerich Academy and excited about the weekend
especially since we opened the pool this week, and they are hoping it hits 80
so they can jump in!!!

Art is Improving~

The Art Stories are really improving our drawing skills.
The boys loved drawing planes when we read The Glorious Flight~
I have been printing paintings online to give the kids examples to inspire them~
 I'd say it's working!

The boys finished a whole set of Bob books, and believe they are readers now~
Yay boys!!!

Nature Walk Wednesday:

On Wednesday we try to take a Nature Walk after bible and scripture time.
Today I wanted to focus on birds, and how they are similar to airplanes since we are reading The Glorious Flight for FIAR.
I grabbed our copy of Aesop's Fables, and we headed out~
We took a tray to sit on, then chose places all over our yard to sit listening to fables, info facts by EK, and chirping birds~
It was cool to close our eyes listening for birds and practice our own whistling~
The birds SO loved the bird feeders we made back in January, so we gathered pine cones
to make more for our favorite bird tree~
We came back in to read books, watch YouTube videos, and get a drawing lesson from SJ~
From SJ's lesson, everyone was able to sketch a bird, color with pencils, add words, and paint~
{EK and SJ brought their pet birds to the table too :}
I drew lines for words today, and it really made organizing their Art Story easier~
SJ copied from a non-fiction book, and EK copied a passage from our chapter book The Other Side of the Mountain~
All the stories were gorgeous, and today was laminating day~
Our Art Story binder is definitely a favorite book for everyone,
and Nature Walk Wednesday is definitely our favorite day because we also go to church tonight!!!

Poetry Teatime:

Tuesday is our Poetry Teatime, and we had Chinese tea with cookies on nice dishes~
Everyone was inspired to draw and paint beautiful pages~
