Christmas Learning~

Homeschooling is a lifestyle.
Learning as we live.
Through the days before Christmas we are reading books and enjoying treats~

Opening gifts to share game time~

and allowing learning to organically happen like yesterday when Evie grabbed her journal~
and began copying all the names from our gifts.
Everyone followed her lead then we read more stories along with more treats!
Hope you're enjoying your holidays too!

Art Study~

Our Simply Charlotte Mason is definitely one of our favorite weekly studies, and we are on our second this year: Van Gogh~
I added a few go along books to enrich our study including this book with a project at the end~
Everyone chose to draw their own masterpiece then add a starry night background~

The Ankerich Van Goghs~
We keep all our art study materials in this basket from Target~

And EK drew this beautiful postcard for Memommy~
Love the artists that are blooming here each day!

Saturday Morning Movie & Muffins~

In living the#bravewriterlifestyle, we tried Friday Movie Night but we're young ones who need sleep and the movie often ran into our bedtime. SO we compromised and began a new tradition today. Saturday Morning Movie & Muffins~

And to continue that alliteration we watched Mulan. It was the perfect time because kids just want to veg with tv on Saturday mornings anyway. Thank you @juliebravewriter for a beautiful model in schooling our children.

Writing Boys~

I moved the boys' rolling cart into their room with books, journals, and drawing caddy~
They have gone crazy copying and drawing out of their books~
I LOVE when they come up with things on their own and don't even know they are learning!

SJ and I picked up a 500 piece puzzle at the $1 store and have been hooked every since~
We finished it in a couple of days and painted a few coats of modge podge on it.
Now it is sealed together and we can't wait to start another one!!!

Nature Learning~

Because our table was decorated with beautiful leaves from our trees, we took our learning outside for the day.
We found an interesting Orb Weaver to observe and learn about~

We also discovered a watermelon seed we had spit on the ground this summer had grown a little plant in out yard
so we dug it up to see the roots and replanted in a pot~

After a little reading and nature journaling, we took off on a walk around our yard~

LOOK at those beautiful children under our gorgeous tree~

We climbed trees and picked big leaves off our magnolia~
Evie held this branch over her head like an umbrella and the boys exclaimed~
"Evie is the The Lady with the Parasol like Monet's painting!"
THAT is a win for art education if you ask me!!
Love this homeschooling life!!!

Ankerich Academy Library~

As if I needed anything else to do the week before the wedding...
I pulled all our books together and made about 7 categories~

For each category I painted the bottom spine with acrylic paint for color code~

I organized them all in rainbow order on the shelves and ready for check out~

They are welcome to shelve their books back and choose others as often as they please~
They are still excited about our library system and have a stack of books for rest every day!

New Handicrafts~

EK and SJ love making all kinds of things with bands~
and the younger kids needed their own handicraft to busy themselves while I read to them~
We chose pearler beads and they are a huge hit.
The big girls used to do these when they were little too...
I guess this craft has stood the test of time! :)

Poetry Teatime~

We planned our Poetry Teatime around all the delicious apples we picked at the apple farm~
We made yummy apple turnovers~ SUPER simple:
Roll out crescent rolls, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar, place an apple slice, roll, spray with butter, and sprinkle again. Bake until golden brown and serve with sweet tea~
A delicious morning!!!

Scripture and Sign Language~

Our new memory verse this week has been fun.
It was another song on our Hide 'em in your heart CD and sung with letters.
I had a thought to teach them how to sign the letters~
We dot painted the verse and hung in our schoolroom.

{I have videos but can't get them to load.}

They even learned to sign their names.
There were lots of conversations around this topic and learning was at a high!
