Good Friday {FUN}~

All week everyone has looked forward to Fun Friday this week.
Always with a holiday coming Fun Friday seems to be just a little 'funner'. :)
We began reading our last 3 parts of Benjamin's Box, opening the last 3 Resurrection Eggs, and completing the last 3 pages of our flip books.
We all took turns reading back through our book and retelling the story of Jesus' Resurrection.

Our BFIAR book this week has been If Jesus Came to My House and I think it is one of the sweetest books I've read to them this year! They all listened carefully and their faces so serious as they thought of what it would be like to have Jesus come over.

We've done lots of talking and observing using this book but today as I read I decided to pull out paper for them to create their own houses~
They worked SO hard and turned out adorable. I had each one think what they would do if Jesus visited their house and we wrote it down.

I glued the roof of their house to the paper so they could lift it up to read their story.

We hung them on our Art Wall~
I was also able to finally get P&E's silhouette's done and hung a few extra things EK&SJ have made in the afternoons while the others napped.

We headed to the kitchen next to decorate eggs that had been baking in the oven.
Some had cracked and they were all quick to point them out.
It was the perfect time to talk about us not being perfect and just like the eggs we are all cracked. That's why Jesus died on the cross for us... for our cracks (sins) and when He comes to live in our hearts, we become beautiful just like our eggs once they are decorated...
I could see the wheels turning once again. I think this week has been a big growing week for each of them. I hope Jesus is becoming more real to them than ever before~
I have not been anywhere to buy egg decorating kits so I winged it and tried food coloring... it worked! Each one dyed the water and dropped in an egg. Once they were dry, they decorated with sharpies and stickers. Cute!

Our favorite thing to cook each Easter is Resurrection Rolls~
so after lunch, we enjoyed our yummy treat because...
Jesus IS Alive!!!!!

Mark 16:6
"Don't be alarmed," he said. "You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him."

New Working Spaces~

I wanted to create an 'art studio' for the littles in the sunroom and that required our white table to be moved.
They have LOVED the freedom to imagine and work with all sorts of mediums~
I found the perfect school table... all my early childhood friends will agree a kidney table is the best!!!
Today when we did school, I was able to reach everyone and teach a lot easier.
I actually left at the lowest point so they can choose to sit on the floor or on a stool

Reading Practice~

I think using the Bob books really are a great resource when teaching the littles to read.
SJ has really blossomed this year and works very hard.
Once we take a picture walk and make some predictions, we do a little word work~
Rainbow tracing and stamping.
Blossoming into a great reader!

Resurrection Eggs~

Even with sick bay in full force, we still squeezed in some school.
I brought out Benjamin's Box and our resurrection eggs today~
We are a little late starting these so we read 3 parts.
I had small images of the story so we worked on 3 pages in our flip books. I had EK bring her bible down and taught her how to locate scripture. She found each one and highlighted with color pencils then recorded in her bible notebook. SJ copied her verse too!

We also threw a little art into the morning... this was the quietest they had been or were all day :)~
We watercolored Easter eggs and they turned out gorgeous when we removed the masking tape.
Can't wait to decorate our schoolroom with them.

Happy Spring~

Today we read a book about Spring to gather facts for our Spring language experience chart. The girls helped fill in some missing words and the boys circled letters they knew~
THEN... the mail carrier delivered a package for our family. I decided to use it as a learning moment. I positioned it by the chart and we guessed what we thought it might be... a puzzle, a book??? We opened the card and found a McDonald's gift card!!! That is huge for us. With 5 kids, we don't splurge on Happy Meals anymore but today it was happening. They all helped open the gift and do you see it?~ a plaque with my blog verse...
Everything Beautiful!
Thank you sweet Ellie!!! You made 5 littles SO happy and I of course LOVE the plaque that hangs right above my writing desk.
Happy Spring everyone!

Singing the Books of the Bible~

EK and SJ spent time each morning working in their calendar notebooks. One of their tasks is singing the Books of the Bible~
LOVE being home with these amazing littles.
God has blessed me with a Beautiful Life!!!

Ping and Math~

After reading today we decided to find out just exactly how many family members were in Ping's family~
We grabbed our bear counters and made some counting mats~

As the younger ones counting onto the mats, EK began adding up the groups on the white board~

We also used our base ten blocks to build the numbers too~
We thought we had a big family until we counted Ping's!
Great Math Day!

Color Pencil Drawings~

Today we read our book of the week, Ping, again and talked about the illustrations. We learned they were drawn with pencils so we decided to try our hand at it also~

We also painted hand print ducks and will finish them tomorrow!

Ping~

Today we began our FIAR book study on Ping. They LOVED it especially because the setting is so familiar to them.
After reading we printed maps of China and located the Yangtze River, we found each one's province/city~
We also learned all about map keys and made one for our maps. They already can't wait to see what we're doing tomorrow!

The Wind Blew~

March is the perfect month to learn all about weather. We pretty much experience it all here in Ga... snow, wind, sunny/warm, and rain. The wind blew all night and still this morning. I pulled my weather folder and The Wind Blew~
After reading the story, they decorated a square and using it with a straw created a pinwheel~

We also did some research about wind using our IPad especially how it works for us. EK decided this was a great topic for her journal writing. Looking forward to more wind activities tomorrow!

Evie Has Skills~

Imagine my surprise when I handed Evie her very own pair of squeezing scissors~
I am NOT kidding when I say she sat, walked, laid on the floor and cut for at least 2 hours yesterday! She LOVED it!!!

We also finished up a couple of more Seuss books with easy activites... Dad cooked green eggs for us to try. Guess who wouldn't even LOOK at them?
And we each colored a section of a fox and made him together after reading Fox in Socks. Still have a few other books and will probably take another week to celebrate Dr. Seuss.
