Halloween~

Today we did a hodge podge of activities:
Read several Halloween books, sang and learned lots about our skeleton, made a skeleton book, and our skeleton with Qtips~

Dad brought us a big bag of Halloween candy and we graphed it. We also created scary spider hats to wear~

LOVED having our cousin Karleigh to celebrate this fun Halloween!

Black Cats~

We read The Witch with a Twitch today~
{Don't normally do anything witch but this story is more about the cat}
Very cute story and we made our very own pet black cats.
Later our very sweet neighbor brought over edible witch hats for dessert... perfect timing. :)

Fun Friday~ Pumpkin Day

Scott and I had planned to take the littles to pumpkin patch today but after checking times found out it opened at 5pm... NOT the ideal time for little ones to be pumpkin picking.
SO plan B went into effect...
Scott ran to Walmart and chose a BEAUTIFUL pumpkin ($7) for...
Pumpkin Day!
We grabbed it right away and headed to the school room:).

First it had to be named~ everyone agreed on Bumpy and for some reason they all wanted to take a ride~
We all made observations and recorded them on a language chart.
The next step was weighing each of us and Bumpy... then lining up in order of weight. Love that they noticed it was with age as well.
Everyone guessed how long a string would need to be for circumference of Bumpy but we were all off~
By this time everyone was getting a little hungry so we measured how tall he was with unifix cubes and were off to make 'Jack o' Bunuelos' with tortillas, butter, cinnamon sugar, and orange sugar. They loved 'carving' their own pumpkins~
When tummies were full, we headed out for pumpkin carving~
EK and WP LOVED pulling out the pulp... SJ NO way! She did pull the eyes, nose, and mouth out but grabbed a towel right away. LOL
Love the photo of them holding Bumpy.
Everyone excited to light him up tonight and let him shine.

Pumpkin Crazy-

We read Pumpkin Town today discussed all the things that could really happen and what was make believe. Everyone was excited to make their own stuffed pumpkin to hang-

I had a stash of foam pumpkin letters and they each searched for the letters in their name (super easy for EK but she loved helping her sibs). Last photo of our pumpkin display this week!

Pumpkin Week~

Today we read one of my favorite pumpkin books...
The Pumpkin Patch Parable~
I pulled my pumpkin life cycle posters and we sequenced together~
Next they each made made a little book and read together.
LOVE that they all finished their book saying they are like a jack-o-lantern...
their face shining a light for Jesus.

Matt 6:22
The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light.

2 Cor 4:6
For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.

Matt 5:16
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Weekend News~

On Mondays the girls write something from the weekend they always want to remember in their journal... Weekend News~

I love watching their different writing styles:

EK always works on her words first wanting to fill the page.

SJ always works on her illustration with exquisite detail.

They both end up with an excellent piece of writing and I love watching it evolve!!!

Zoo Day~

Our school system is on Fall break this week but we are continuing to school since we have our China travel coming up.
Today we went with our sweet friends: Ms. Hope, Melissa, Todd, Jennifer, and all the kids to the Zoo for a field trip~ SO fun!
I promise it went from warm yesterday to FREEZING today (51, cloudy, and breezy:)... thank goodness I had changed out all the clothes and found our coats. :)
Lyra Kate (in pink) and her family are waiting for their dossier to make it to China so they can be matched with her little sister!!!
It was a great day of chasing kids, listening to sweet voices, and new friendships blooming.
Funny convo this morning: I was talking to them about how important it would be to stay close and before I could finish, EK said, "Mom, I know what we should do if we get lost... tell the Zookeeper!" Ha
A GREAT Zoo Day!!!

Fun Friday... Pond Day~

Today was a great day for a field trip to the Pond.
We began the day with several pond activities including:
painting, writing, and assembling frog/turtle art,
made a food chain,
and a comic strip of 12 animals found at the pond~
Then it was time to head to my mom and dad's farm for Pond Day.
We drove over to the pasture and walked down the path looking for creatures (notice their new Halloween buckets:).
My dad (Pop) brought catfish food for the littles to throw and watch for fish~
Everyone loved being down along the edge but EK was the happiest chasing grasshoppers for Pop to use for fish bait.
(Nothing was biting... a little too hot).
We all piled in the back of Pop's truck to ride back through the pasture to our truck and we headed to their house.
EK found a beautiful sunflower and shelled a few butter beans getting a full farm morning in.
On the way home I asked if they loved going to the pond...
EK and WP both yelled 'YES'! and SJ said 'Not so much because of the smell'. (Dairy farm) Ha
Thank you Memommy and Pop for a VERY Fun Friday!!!

Morning Bible Time~

I know I have shared about our Morning Bible Time but wanted to share a really wonderful resource we added.
In addition to our Bible story, writing and drawing about our daily Bible verse, we have been using Steve Smith's Hide 'em in your Heart CDs. The kids LOVE them and I hear them singing scripture all day long~
And the really wonderful thing is I raised my big girls on these songs and they can still sing them today...
They really are 'Hidden in their Hearts'!!!

Matt 19:14
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

Play with Me~

We are rowing Play with Me this week. It may well be a favorite as of the very first day because it is full of animals! Meadow and pond animals... some of which we see and hold on a daily basis. :)
On Mondays we always read our story with a cold read and reread knowing the story line. It is important for children to get the flow of the story so I always try to do a storytelling activity to be used everyday while reading.
Today after the second reading I had the girls decide what the story made them think of (connection) and they wrote in their journal.
They also matched riddles and the animals to use for retelling.
EK loved reading the riddles and SJ loved guessing!
It's going to be a very fun week!
